A wild-growing treat for the palate
Summer treatment with pinching for pear espaliers
Trellis fruit growing has its origins in France.
This horticultural art spread throughout Europe as far as the Tsarist Empire and Great Britain. The various forms of espalier were cultivated and further developed, particularly in castle and monastery gardens. They were a feast for the eyes and offered fruity treats for the palate.
Together with FRUCTUS and ProSpecieRara , 31 pear varieties were planted along our monastery wall in 2021 and 2022. These young trees require shaping pruning in both winter and summer. Various trellis forms such as the "«doppelte U-Form»", the "Verrier-Palmette" and "Fächerspaliere" are being developed.
We invite you to take part in this summer pruning workshop. You will learn about the theoretical basics of pruning and shaping espaliers and will be able to work on our young trees on site. You will be able to apply the knowledge you have acquired to your own espalier tree in your garden, for example.
